We're proud to be a Certified B Corporation
What is a Certified B Corporation?
B Corporations are companies that meet high standards social impact, accountability, and transparency, as verified by an independent team.
Why B Corp Certification matters to us
Becoming a Certified B Corporation was about taking the work we’ve been doing for nearly a decade, and seeing what we were getting right and how we can do even better. In short, it holds us accountable to our values.
B Corp certification is granted to businesses that are transparent, accountable, and committed to making a positive impact across five key areas: Governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. It involves a thorough, independent audit of our operations to ensure we are meeting high standards of responsible business practices, and it allows us to benchmark ourselves against leading purpose-driven organisations around the world.
Our score
What this means for you
Our B Corp certification is a reflection of our long-standing commitment to the disability and aged care communities we serve.
Of our total Impact Score of 102.1, we’re especially proud that 33 points came from the Customers pillar, which recognises how well a business supports, protects, and delivers value to its customers. It’s a meaningful acknowledgement of the care we put into every part of our service.
For you, this certification means added confidence that your meals come from a company that meets high global standards for social impact, accountability, and transparency. It’s also an assurance that we’re striving to do better by you year in and year out.
What’s next?
Being B Corp certified is an ongoing commitment. Every three years, we’re reassessed by an independent body to make sure we’re meeting, and ideally exceeding, the highest standards of social and environmental impact.
Food donations
We partner with organisations to supply food to local communities.
Over the years, we have donated to Acts of Kindness, Sydney Food Share, CAN Community Support, and Thornbury Church of Christ’s Food Relief Program.
To date, we have donated over 1,200 meals, 600 sandwiches, and over 1,000 extras like soups, bars, and juices.
Fighting food waste
At Able Foods, we’re of the opinion that no vegetable should go uneaten. That’s why we’re proud of our collaboration with Nutri V.
Nutri V takes 100% Australian grown vegetables that would have otherwise gone to landfill (including stalks and leaves!), and turns them into nutrient dense, fibre rich, and protein fuelled vegetable powders.
By using their powders in some of our meals, we’ve saved thousands of serves of perfectly good vegetables from landfill.
Office waste management practices
We prioritise reducing and reusing resources, and also have recycling procedures in place in our offices.
Waste reduction: Employees minimise waste generation by adopting practices such as using reusable water bottles, coffee mugs, and lunch containers instead of single-use alternatives.
- Recycling: Our Sydney and Melbourne offices have a five-bin set up that includes mixed recycling and paper and cardboard recycling: Proper disposal and recycling of waste, including hazardous electronic waste (e-waste) is followed
- E-waste: Able Foods is committed to disposing of hazardous waste responsibly. Able Foods collects e-waste from employees and recycles through external collection facilities.
- Food compost: We collect food waste, tea bags, and compostable cutlery to be composted at a local school’s worm farm and compost bins.
